Brittany Clayton is exploring the options available for a career. She has her focus set on working within the government and she was interested in joining the MentorAbility program with Performance Plus Rehabilitative Care Inc. (PPRC) to get some first-hand experience. Mike Potvin has worked in the Human Resources Department of the Federal government for nine years. Mike agreed to be a Mentor for Brittany.

As a protégé, Brittany and her Mentor Mike both identify as having vision loss. The two met via a Zoom call and talked about Brittany’s career path and what working within a federal department entails. Mike was pleased with being a mentor, he said “It was nice to share some knowledge and help someone else out. This is a really great program.”

People with vision loss find it harder to secure, steady employment. Both of us have the same disability and I liked the fact that he was able to give me a lot of information and I really had a good feeling when I left the session. At the end of the session, I had I sense of hope and felt very uplifted. My mentor said I was on a good path, that felt really refreshing!
